vaginal self care

With our culture talking about vaginas and how to care of them seems to be so taboo! It’s so strange, Vaginas, that are literally one of the most powerful and perfect things on Earth yet if you openly try to talk about them people get embarrassed or grossed out or feel weird talking about them. Our vaginas deserve to be celebrated and honored and taken care of just as any other part of our body.  The purpose of this article is to share with you my favorite tips for natural vaginal self care.

Natural Vaginal Self-Care

When it comes to keeping our vaginas healthy, there is definitely a gap in knowledge in the Western culture. After doing some research and networking among the natural minded community I learned of new age and traditionally educated people who are spreading knowledge and past down traditions about how to heal our bodies naturally. Here are some of the tips that I have researched and adopted for my own personal care and wellness.

Vaginal Steaming – This technique has been used for thousands of years and in many different cultures all over the world. I have been doing this for about a year and a half now and it has helped alleviate fibroids, painful cramps and helps to regulate hormones. It’s a great addition to vaginal self care. Click here to read more.

Yoni Egg – This is probably one of the strangest, most unconventional things ever. When I first learned about this I was surprised and intrigued. This is another older tradition that has not been passed down in western culture, but has lots of benefits when it comes to vaginal health.  Click here to read more.

Ditch TamponsThis was probably one of the best health decisions of my womanhood! Did you know that tampons are loaded with harmful toxins that are associated with health problems? I’ve been almost 6 years tampon free and my only regret is not doing it sooner. It’s been a key factor in improving my vaginal health and I recommend it to all women. Click here to read more.

Sugaring vs. Waxing – From my research and experience sugaring vs. waxing is so much better for you! Waxing contains petrochemicals and the process itself can be harmful compared to sugar that is made with natural ingredients and uses a different process. Happy Hormone Oils: If you have been following me for awhile you know that I use essential oils for wellness and full body support. Hormones are no exception. Of course all essential oils are not equal. Here are my tips for how NOT to waste money on essential oils. My favorite oils for hormone health and natural vaginal support are: Clary Sage, Progessence Plus, Dragon Time, You can click here to see where to get my favorite! I send a little something your way when you order some for yourself!

Period Tips:

I love taking different educational classes and workshops. I am often researching natural alternatives and techniques and learning more about how to best facilitate our bodies. In a course I took from an acupuncturist I learned some tips for how to best take care of your body during your menstrual period. Our body is losing nutrients and minerals during this time so it’s important to nourish ourselves during this time. Here are some recommended tips for taking care of yourself while on your period.

  • Rest more and do light workouts – I try to stay away from super high intensity workouts for the first couple days of my cycle. I love to get in a walk, a hike or a yoga class.
  • Consume warm foods and drinks – It is important to warm and nourish our bodies during this time to facilitate menstruation.
  • Take extra iron (liver capsules, beans, lentils, greens, etc.) – Because our body is losing so many precious nutrients during this time it is important to replace the iron we are losing. Click here to see what I use and where to buy it.
  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables – Eating healthy during menstruation helps our body to replenish the nutrients that are being lost during this time. Make sure to eat 6-8 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially during this time.
