Fondue Recipes

Fondue originated as a Swiss dish of melted cheese but has since been generalized as other dishes in which food is dipped into a communal pot of hot liquid. Long stemmed utensils are used to dip foods into cheese, broth or chocolate for a delicious meal or dessert. All you need is a Fondue Set (where to buy) and of course you must make the tough decision of which type of Fondue you are going to make.

I love Fondue! It is the perfect treat for a girls night or even a fun romantic night in. Here are two of my favorite recipes for healthier versions of fondue for you to enjoy!

Cheese Fondue

  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups bone broth
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup beer
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup flavorful Swiss cheese (such as Gruyère or Emmenthaler), shredded
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Assorted fresh vegetables, chopped, such as broccoli, carrots or red bell peppers or granny smith apples are really yummy too
  • Chunks of bread (rye, sourdough, etc.)

Add chopped garlic and bone broth to the pot, whisk in the mustard and then bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. While broth is coming to a boil, combine the flour and beer in a small bowl, stirring to dissolve the flour and prevent lumping. Once the broth has come to a boil, add the beer and flour mixture while whisking. Bring that mixture back to a boil and cook for one minute, whisking constantly. Remove the pot from the heat and whisk in the shredded cheese, stirring to dissolve.Season the fondue with salt and pepper and serve immediately with assortment of chopped fresh vegetables and bread for dipping.

Raw Cacao Fondue

Fill a double boiler with water. Put on a burner over medium low heat. Add all your ingredients into the boiler and stir. The cacao will not cook, but will warm enough to melt the honey and swirl everything into a nice creamy texture, perfect for dipping. For serving you can keep it warm on a fondue set.  It is delicious with fruit and is such a rich satisfying dessert.
