Despite all of the commercialism of Valentine’s Day I love the idea of having a day dedicated so showing our love for others. While I believe that everyday should be a reason to show our love it is kind of fun to enjoy in some traditions and even create your own! Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be filled with overpriced flowers, hectic dinner plans and unhealthy candies. Here are some ideas to enjoy a happy, healthy Valentine’s Day.
Date Night In Dinner Ideas
I have never been a fan of going out on Valentine’s Day, it’s crowded and overpriced. Why go out when you can make a more delicious and healthy meal at home and really spoil the one you love! Like these healthy fondue recipes, because who doesn’t love fondue! Or try a healthy version of Asian takeout with a supercharged egg drop soup recipe, collard green wraps and quinoa fried rice.
While you’re enjoying your date night in, why not include a movie. Life is Beautiful is one of my favorite movies with a wonderful message of just how special life is. It’s a wonderful blend of drama, romantic comedy and tragedy all at once. Sleepless in Seattle, The Notebook, Love Actually, Ghost and Dirty Dancing are also great ones to snuggle up and watch.
Here are some ideas for your sweetheart
What better way to show your love for your honey than with some old-fashioned adult play? Sex plays an important role in healthy relationships. Here are some tips for how to increase your libido naturally. And speaking of sex, forget store bought personal lubricants with dangerous chemicals. Making your own is so easy and can double as massage oil too. Exchanging reflexology massages is another fun, hands-on way to show your love and share good health with your lover.
For Kids
I love seeing the holidays through my children’s eyes. They are so fascinated with learning about each and every special day and how we spend it. As the kids get older I want to teach them how to show their love for others, but also to love themselves first and foremost. I LOVE the book Incredible You by Wayne Dyer which sends a wonderful message to young children about what powerful and unique beings they are and shares with them 10 ways to let their greatness shine through! Another great book for the holiday is The Story of Valentine’s Day which teaches children all the things in this world they have to be thankful for.
Making Valentine’s Day cards is fun for kids of all ages. You can let your kids get creative with some construction paper and doilies or these cute nostalgic vintage Valentine’s Day Cards. They will have fun making these special cards for their friends and family members. This rubber stamp adds the perfect touch to any cards you might be mailing off to loved ones!
Commercial candy is unhealthy but that doesn’t mean you have to skip out on sharing sweet treats. You can make your own healthy homemade gelatin gummies, heart shaped of course, with this silicon mold. If you don’t have time to make anything don’t despair, you can always order some organic lollipops.
Looking for some family friendly Valentine’s Day movies? How about Lady & The Tramp, Gnomeo and Juliet, Wall-E or The Lorax.
