Having a baby is the most awesome feeling in the WORLD! But pregnancy and labor take it’s toll on mama’s body and the first couple days, or weeks can be a bit uncomfortable. Here is my list of awesome, toxin-free, DIY Postnatal Must Haves!
All new mommies should have these items on hand before the birth. It will help to make life a little easier once your bundle of joy arrives! These recipes use therapeutic grade essential oils which are what I would highly recommend to use during pregnancy, labor and for postnatal care (actually for anyone always!) DIY Postnatal Must Haves
Padsicles
- Feminine pads (where to buy disposable) or (where to buy reusable)
- Witch Hazel (where to buy)
- 2-3 drops of Lavender Essential Oils
- 2-3 drops of Frankincense Essential Oils
- 2-3 drops of Geranium Essential Oils
- Spray Bottle (where to buy)
Fill bottle with Witch Hazel and add essential oils in spray bottle. Spray the pads enough to dampen the pads but not completely soak. Place in individual plastic sandwich bags and place in freezer. After baby, use 3-4 pads per day straight from the freezer to soothe and heal! Any leftover spray can also double as a perineal spray.
Nipple Salve
- Coconut Oil (where to buy)
- 3-4 drops of Lavender
- Small Glass Jar (where to buy)
Mix coconut oil and lavender in small glass jar. Use when needed! The oil can be used solidified or as a liquid, either will work. This is great for soothing the nipples in between feeding your baby and the oils are pure so no harmful or toxic ingredients!
Bottom Spray
- Witch Hazel (where to buy)
- 2-3 drops of Lavender
- 2-3 drops of Peppermint
- Glass Spray Bottle (where to buy)
This spray is a cooling, soothing perineal mist that helps ease discomfort of postpartum vaginal soreness and swelling, episiotomies and hemorrhoids. Mix witch hazel, lavender, and cooling peppermint pure therapeutic grade essential oils. This simple DIY Bottom Spray provides tremendous relief. Mist as often as you need it, especially after bath or toilet use. It allows you to sit easier and feel better – naturally.
Relaxing Spray
- Filtered water
- 1 tsp of Rubbing Alcohol (where to buy)
- 3-4 drops of Lavender
- 3-4 drops of Frankincense
- Glass Spray Bottle (where to buy)
Fill water to spray bottle, add rubbing alcohol and essential oils and mix. Use as needed. Makes a calming room spray, linen spray or air freshener. It will be calming and soothing to both parents and the baby as well as siblings and pets are are adjusting during this transitional phase of getting acquainted to the new family dynamics!
Soothing Sitz Bath Salts
- 1/2 cup of Epsom Salts (where to buy)
- 2-3 drops of Lavender
- 2-3 drops of Frankincense
- 2-3 drops of Geranium
Add salts to a bowl and add essential oils. You can also make a larger batch by doubling the recipe and mixing in a mason jar. Take sitz baths as needed to soothe perineal area.
Homemade Immune Supporting Hand Sanitizer Spray
While you want to avoid germs being spread to your baby. Conventional antibacterial hand sanitizer isn’t necessarily the best option. Many of those products contain dangerous, toxic ingredients such as triclosen. Making your own hand sanitizer helps to ensure that you control the ingredients and can also offer immune supporting benefits for those who use it! It’s a great way to keep your baby safe while avoiding harmful chemicals.
- Water
- 5 drops of Thieves
- 5 drops of Lavender
- 5 drops of Tea Tree (melaleuca alternafolia)
- Glass Spray Bottle (where to buy)
Mix into a spray bottle and use as needed. You can spray on hands and rub them together, you can also spray on any surface as a healthy alternative to chemical based sanitizers.
