Detoxing is important to help rid our bodies of toxins and chemicals that can accumulate and cause disease and illness. This post will share the benefits of detoxing the lungs and how to do so naturally!

Benefits of Detoxing the Lungs

The lungs act as mediators between the air outside of the body and the air within our blood stream. Cleansing the lungs means eliminating your body of toxins that could be affecting the function of the organs. Lungs function best when they are clean and healthy. Periodically detoxing them will help to keep them this way. You will want to check with your physician before starting any detox program.

Detoxing is one of the best things you can do to stay healthy. Your lungs are some of your most vital organs, and most human beings can live only for mere minutes without air. Therefore, it is important to keep your lungs healthy to ensure that they can function at their best. Although you have minimal control over the air you breathe, you can take steps to detox your lungs using natural methods.

Simple Daily Tips for Detoxing the Lungs

To improve the health of your lungs ensure that you drink plenty of water each day. Avoid eating mucous-producing foods such as dairy, meats, corn, wheat and soy. Increasing your fiber intake improves your body’s elimination system which improves the overall health of all of your organs. Make sure to eat a diet full of a variety of healthy, real foods and supplement with vitamins A, C, E, and Selenium, which work to increase the antioxidant power of your lungs.

Indoor Air Pollution in our houses can cause many breathing conditions. We can protect ourselves and our loved ones by reducing the use of commercial household cleaners and scented products. These products contain hundreds, if not thousands of harmful chemicals. While they may smell nice, they are a huge contributor to household air pollution which can make us very sick. You can also clean the air in your house using a good quality air filter (here is what we have and what I highly recommend!)

Breathing Exercises

Breathing exercises help keep the lungs pure by increasing the flow of fresh oxygenated blood. pranayama, as it is referred to in Yoga, trains the lungs, providing better lung health and an overall wellness both physically and mentally. One common Yogic breathing exercise is called Ujjayi pranayama (U-jai-ee) by taking a complete inhale in through the nose with the mouth closed, holding the breath for two or three seconds, and then fully exhaling. Repeat this process eight times for a full breathing exercise session.
