Healthy living and ditching toxins is a huge passion of mine. Over the past decade I have dedicated my life to learning more about the toxin we are exposed to every day and how to ditch these toxins to live better.  This post will share with you my honest review of Green Enough: Eat Better, Live Cleaner and Be Happier, All Without Driving Your Family Crazy!

Green Enough Book Review

This book was written by Leah Segedie of Mamavation and mastermind behind ShiftCon, an Ecowellness Blogger conference I was blessed enough to attend earlier this year. I had the pleasure of meeting Leah in person and seeing her passion in action as she connected influencers with health conscious companies to help create a shift! She is an absolute Powerhouse and I was so excited to learn about her new book about how to reduce toxic living, which is a huge passion of mine. I pre-ordered her book because I love to support others who are doing big things to educate and empower others, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book.

A few weeks after ShiftCon Leah was looking for influencers to get an advanced copy of her book to review and share! Of course I had to get all over it and was so excited when I was chosen! I have to say, this book is even better than I expected, it’s perfect for anyone who is looking to learn more about the sad, scary and toxic world we live in, and how we can make simple changes without driving our families crazy! She goes into many different aspects of cutting out toxins, starting with food, packaging, cookware, produce, meats, how to detox room by room and even the dangers of toxins in personal care products.

This book takes no prisoners and holds nothing back in this informative and educational book! She goes into detail on the nasty food ingredients that are banned in other parts of the world, but not here in the United States. Toxic ingredients such as Azodicarbonamide, the “yoga mat” chemical that was in Subway bread until widespread awareness and public outcry caused its removal, or potassium brominate which has the ability to displace iodine in the human body and can cause problems with the nervous system. She discusses why you should avoid vegetable oils, 50 nicknames for MSG and even calls out food brands to avoid while sharing the Bad, Better and Best Brands to use!

Did you know that your food packaging can be making you sick? Takeout food containers are loaded with fluorinated chemicals to repel oil and moisture so that they are better to hold greasy foods, canned foods are lined with BPA labels and even the “BPA-Free” versions are not any less toxic. Green Enough goes into great detail about the different types of food storage, the toxins they contain and the dangers of those chemicals, as well as lots of information on how to make changes to begin to ditch these toxins from your life and provides greener alternatives!

Leah doesn’t just tell you to ditch certain foods, brands and ingredients, she includes so many amazing, delicious and nutritious recipe that I cannot wait to try for myself! For example, Chicken with Pistachio-Mint Couscous and a Chipotle Black Bean Dip! This book is full of lots of yummy and healthy ideas for inspiration!

Finally, the book breaks down room by room to remove toxins! Leah discusses how certain companies “Greenwash” meaning, use buzz words or market as being healthier and less toxic than they actually are. She lists dangerous chemicals to avoid such as parabens, titanium dioxide, ethanolamines and goes into detail about why their bad, where they are found and what other names they can be labeled as and then proceeds to let us know the bad, better and best when it comes to personal care brands.

Green Enough is chock full of great information. I love it because Leah keeps it real, she is educational without being preachy or naggy. She has no problem dropping a well placed F bomb (a girl after my own heart, and has no problem calling out the big boys! She doesn’t just reveal the problems, she gives real, relatable, and easy to do alternatives. This book is a must have for anyone looking to learn more about how to live healthier and happier.  I highly recommend Leah’s new book Green Enough for anyone who is wanting to become educated on how to go greener and keep themselves and their family safe. You can pre-order it here now before it’s released on March 20th, 2018.
