DIY First Aid and Wellness Kit

Wellness Kit

Many OTC medicines have an extensive list of ingredients. Are they really all necessary? What about side effects? All medicines are created to mimic natural alternative in a more convenient way to provide to general public. Over the counter drugs carry with them a danger of overdosing and prolonged use of these drugs are discouraged and can lead to further medical problems. For me and my family, using natural alternatives is a no brainer. I think there is a place for pharmaceutical drugs and all the other wonders modern medicine has to offer, but when it comes to everyday health I prefer a more natural route. I have created a First Aid and Wellness Kit that uses essential oils to promote health and well-being and nourishes our bodies when we are run down and fighting off illness. This article will share with you some tips and tricks for putting together your own Natural First Aid and Wellness Kit at home.

*Because each and every one of us are different our Wellness kits will also be unique based on individual needs. This list is for basic first aid and common ailments.

Why You Should Have a Natural First Aid and Wellness Kit at home.

Have you ever stopped to think about the ingredients in medicine products? I became much more aware when I first became a mother. When my kids were babies there were several recalls on Children’s Tylenol and Motrin, every few months it seemed. The fact that there could be multiple recalls on the same medicine in a couple year period freaked me out. Especially when those reasons have included nauseating package odors, small glass or metal particles in liquid medicines and wrong levels of active ingredients (YIKES!). From then on I began to take a natural approach to our medicine. While herbs and essential oils are very potent, they are generally safe and can be used without worry. Below are some recipes that I have stocked in my natural wellness kit. I have one at home and a smaller travel kit for on-the go. You can watch my video about my travel kit here. DIY Therapeutic Honey

DIY Therapeutic Honey

Many people are unaware that honey itself has healing properties and has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. I wrote about it awhile back and name honey as one of my medicine cabinet must haves. This post will share with you some recipes to make honey even more powerful by making your own therapeutic honey!

Healing Benefits of Honey

Honey is a superfood and has made my list of medicine cabinet must haves. According to Ayurvedic medicine raw honey is considered a medicine while heated honey is considered a slow poison. Honey in it’s natural form is complete with beneficial vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Honey that has been heated destroys the honey’s nutritional value and which creates cellular toxicity and and can lead to immune dysfunction. Most commercial honey has been processed and should be avoided completely. When purchasing raw honey it is important that it is labeled as Unfiltered, Unprocessed or Unpasteurized.

What is Manuka Honey?

Manuka honey is from Australia from bees that collect nectar from the flowers of the manuka bush. Researchers have found that manuka honey has many natural healing powers for everything such as wrinkles, acne, burns, cuts/scratches, acid reflux, ulcers and much more. It can be used both internally and external for its antibacterial properties. It can be found at many health food stores or purchased online here.

Manuka honey is not cheap which has probably been one of the main reasons I haven’t tried it yet. It has been on my mental grocery list but every time I see the price I think of how, fortunately, we are all in pretty good health and think of all the other yummy goodies I can get to cook instead.

I came across a great post over on Camp Wander- a recipe for DIY Manuka honey that I couldn’t wait to try. I recommend using pure therapeutic grade essential oils (where to buy) so that these medicinal honey recipes can be used either internally or externally.

Therapeutic Honey Recipes:

I would also like to share a recipe for a honey that I use quite often when we feel like we are getting a cold. Just taking a 1/2 teaspoon of this therapeutic honey is a great way to ward off germs and boost the immune system. It can also be applied topically to heal wounds such as bug bites, rashes, or scrapes/scratches.

Using Essential Oils to Take Control of Health and Wellness

EO For wellness

In this industrialized world we live in toxins are all around us which can wreck havoc on our health and well-being. Limiting chemicals and boosting our immune system is vital to our wellness. It is possible to take control of our health by taking positive steps to nourish our bodies to function properly. This post will share information on how to use essential oils to take control of health and wellness.

What are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils are aromatic liquids that give each plant its unique fragrance such as a lemon or peppermint. These oils in their pure, unadulterated form can trigger responses in the physical body as well as the central nervous system when rubbed on the skin or inhaled. Because our sense of smell is our most emotional sense different fragrances can change mood, the ability to breath clearer and even digestion!

Many essential oils can be adulterated by companies to provide a cheaper product to unsuspecting consumers looking for a discount. Essential oils can be diluted with chemicals and benzyl alcohol. These constituents can be harmful and sometimes even toxic.

If you are simply looking for nice smells then most essential oils will do, but if you are interested in improving health and well-being then therapeutic essential oils are recommended and used by health professionals. Therapeutic grade essential oils work to promote balance and inspire the entire body. They work to enhance peace of mind, boost energy and improve mood.
