I love doing regular detoxes for my body to help remove toxins and boost my body full of nutrients to help improve overall health and wellness. I have typically done juice detoxes and eliminations diets, but I recently came across something new that is a great detoxifying alternative in the colder months. This post will share with you how to do a Nourishing Soup Detox.

What is a Nourishing Soup Detox?

During the colder months, when our bodies tend to crave warmth and comfort, juice at every meal isn’t very appealing. Soups can easily be packed with tons of nutrient based foods providing the ultimate comfort food essential to heal the body during a detox. It makes perfect sense as a wintertime alternative to detoxing. Soup offers many benefits. Since most soups rely primarily on vegetables rather than fruits, they are super low on the glycemic scale, and are packed with fiber, which makes it hearty and satisfying. a proper cleanse needs nutrients that support the body’s innate detoxification systems and anti-microbials to kill the bad bacteria in the gut, which are a common source of toxicity.  Soup is a great way to deliver those nutrients to the body, as the food does not have to be chewed as much and it’s easier on the digestive system.

Pressing juice removes the fibers and pulps of fruits that are meant to be consumed. You get a lot of nutrients, but miss out on quite a bit of fiber which offers health benefits as well.  Soup generally packs more protein and fewer carbs than a green juice and is less likely to cause blood sugar levels to spike or plummet. A detox soup takes many of the healthiest ingredients possible and puts them together in one pot. They usually involve pureeing or blending the vegetables up, or at the very least chopping them into bite-sized pieces. This makes the soup easy to digest so your body can absorb and utilize all of the nutrients more easily. The best part about these recipes is that the focus is still on taste, so you’re getting a detox dose of vitamins and minerals which is satisfying to eat and is much easier to consume.

Making these soups with nutritious homemade bone broth will add extra nutrients and minerals to your soup. Store bought broth will not have the same nutritional value as homemade, not even close. You can learn more about the benefits of homemade bone broth here as well as a recipe for how easy it is to make your own. This will be the base to many nutritious and delicious soups that you can include in your detox. Here are some nourishing soup detox recipes that can get you started!
