5 Ways to Boost the Immune System Naturally

It seems that during the colder months our bodies are much more susceptible to getting sick. It tends to start with the back to school season and then as the weather changes. Everyone around us seems to be sick and of course no one wants to be feeling below the wellness line…EVER! This post will share with you 5 ways to boost the immune system naturally and keep yourself feeling happy and healthy!

5 Ways to Boost the Immune System Naturally:

1. Diet & Nutrition:

What we eat plays a huge factor in how our body functions, and our immune systems are no exception. Foods we eat can help to boost the immune system naturally. Nutrient dense foods like bone broth, fermented foods and fresh fruits and vegetables should be eaten regularly to keep the body happy and healthy. I love making a fire cider during the colder months and having that on hand in case we start feeling under the weather.

2. Fitness & Exercise:

This does not have to be high intensity workouts. A 20 minute walk or yoga stretches can do wonders for the body and the immune system. Exercise helps to flush the lymphatic system and boost cells that are designed to attack bacteria. These cells work more slowly in people who do not exercise regularly. Moderate exercise also has an abundance of other health benefits, like controlling hypertension and diabetes, preventing Alzheimer’s, reducing anxiety and stress, and slowing the aging process. Studies show that people who engage in moderate exercise regularly can increase their lifespan by up to 10 years.

3. Adequate Sleep:

Sleep is important to boost the immune system naturally. If you are not getting enough sleep your body will become run down and be more prone to illness. Studies show that even short-term loss of sleep has a significant impact on how the immune system functions. Sleep loss can trigger an immune system response in the body that increases inflammation that can cause tissue damage.  These findings help us to further understand the link between sleep problems and increased risks for diseases like diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, obesity and specific cancers. 4. Essential Oils:

If you aren’t using Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils yet, what are you waiting for? I used oils for years, but NOTHING worked as good as these. These powerful and potent oils have so many benefits. They are one of my main tools for boosting my families immune system naturally! Essential oils support the immune system by soothing the nervous system and reducing stress. But buyer beware! Not all essential oils are created equal. Here is how to make sure you are not wasting money on essential oils, and information on what oils have worked best for my family.

5. Vitamin D:

Scientists at the University of Copenhagen have discovered that Vitamin D is crucial to activating our immune defenses and that without sufficient intake of the vitamin, the killer cells of the immune system – T cells – will not be able to react to and fight off serious infections in the body. 15 minutes in the sun helps you to get adequate daily values of Vitamin D. If you live in a place that doesn’t get much sun, or long winters you can always supplement with Vitamin D3 here.
